PHOTOGRAPHY

Working predominantly in medium-format, the majority of my photographs are taken with my 1937 Rolleiflex Automat (I also have a 1962 model T Rolleiflex too, plus a couple of other back-ups). I like to experiment with a variety of film stocks and my aim is merely to capture what I think are striking images. While I’m certainly no luddite and enjoy all the benefits of the digital world, I find there’s a certain excitement in the unpredictability of film and the end results should be one step removed from clinical reality. I particularly like to experiment with expired film stocks and cross-processing to produce vibrant colours. It’s a slow way of working with each image requiring careful consideration (although it does occasionally reward quick thinking, as with the image of my grandma in candlelight on her 88th birthday - the same age as the camera, coincidentally).
